Gout was commonly labeled as a rich man’s disease; because it generally affected affluent people, who had access to meat and alcohol. Uric acid is a byproduct of a compound called “purines” which are found in high levels in meat and fish. In addition, alcohol decreases the clearance of Uric acid and thus can cause Uric acid buildup. Cut down on meat and fish and increase your vegetable intake. Be sure to always drink plenty of water.

Lifestyle

Drink plenty of water. This will help the body remove excess uric acid and decrease the production of inflammatory chemicals.

Supplements

  1. Your Prescription for Health Super Omega-3 Fish Oil - 3 Capsules twice daily. If you prefer liquid, take Carlson Labs Finest Fish Oil 1 tablespoon daily.
  2. Zyflamend- is an herbal Anti-inflammatory that can work to decrease inflammation during a gout attack. Take 2 Caps 3 times daily. During an attack, 2 caps twice daily for maintenance.
  3. Cherry Extract - works to increase the excretion of Uric acid while acting as a potent Anti-inflammatory. I recommend Cherry Extract from PhytoPharmica 3 caps 3 times daily for acute attacks and 3 caps twice daily for maintenance/
  4. Quercetin - is a bioflavonoid which helps to inhibit an enzyme called Xanthine  oxidase. Xanthine oxidase is the enzyme responsible for production of Uric acid in the body.
