Diet

  1. Decrease refined carbohydrates
  2. Don’t worry about cholesterol and fat in the diet
  3. Eat as many raw vegetables as possible
  4. Eat food sources of omega-3 fatty acids suchs as nuts, seed, and wild-caught cold-water fish
  5. Eat the Mediteranean Diet consisting of :
a. Olive oil is the primary source of fat
b. Plenty of fresh fruit c. Plenty of cold-water fish d. Chicken and eggs consumed moderately (less than 4 times weekly. e. Minimal red meat f. Moderate wine consumption (preferably Pinot Noir or Cabernet Savignon)

Lifestyle

  1. Exercise is very important. Interval training (alternating sprints with walks/jogs) is best for promoting heart health.
  2. Stress increases cholesterol and risk of heart disease.
  3. Don’t smoke!
  4. Anger significantly increases risk of premature death from heart disease
  5. Regular meditation may help to reset your nervous system and prevent heart disease
  6. Type A personalities, characterized as time urgency, competative, impatient people have high rates of heart disease. Chill out.
