Diet

Some foods may trigger incontinence. Common Culprits include: spices, peppers, onions and scallions. Try cutting them out for a week to assess sensitivity.v

Lifestyle

  1. Lose weight. Extra weight can cause pressure on the bladder. Cutting 10-20 pounds can have significant impacts on incontinence symptoms.
  2. Perform regular Kegel exercises. Kegels are also called Pelvic Floor Exercises. Simply squeeze the muscles that you use to hold urine back when you have to urinate. Squeeze them tight for a count of five or ten and perform 10 repetitions. Try to work up to ten sets of ten.
  3. Try acupuncture which has been shown to decrease the number of incontinence episodes by 50%. May require once weekly sessions.
  4. Schedule regular trips to the toilet. Emptying the bladder before the urge comes on can go a long way to help cut the incontinence episodes.
  5. Check your Meds. Certain medications such as anti-depressants, beta blockers, sleeping pills can worsen the symptoms
